1st April 2016. Washington DC
April fools day. But this isn’t like any other fools day. News channels are busy covering the latest happening of the day. Traffic is blocked in every street. Pedestrians talking about the unfortunate day. People at home are scared to step out, they are happy to be alive and glued to the news to know if this is some kind of prank the government of United States playing on them. Offices are shut and schools are closed. Many rumors float, people are confused. The criminals find it a right time to strike. They loot every possible thing that they get their hands on. Smokes from different part of the city warn that something ain’t right about this day. Soon the cops find themselves out numbered.
The news spread all over the world like a wild fire. Every city on earth wakes up with the same horror. But deep inside everyone feels it’s just another prank of April fools day. Some one would say it was and it would pass away.
Suzzan Ieanel is lazy in her own ways. 10 times snoozing the morning alarm and still dreaming is something no one till date had achieved. It was an hectic day of work for her yesterday. She works for Times as a freelance journalist. In dreams most of the times she finds herself at the top of the corporate chain. People like her boss, his bosses boss and co workers who hardly care for her, I mean at times they don’t even realize the existence of a person called Suzzan and many a times she had to undergo the embarrassment of them trying to recollect her name and failing; were seen waving their tails at her disposal. She felt a sense of happiness that in her real life was just numbered in single digits. She would slap her boss and question his authenticity on his decisions. Everyone at office would notice her with respect. A respect which comes along with success. She would give orders and make important decisions.
Snooze snooze…..
She snoozes the alarm 11th time. Opening her eyes seems mountainous job for her now. Lying on her back she thinks about the things that she had to do, then opens her eye and walks like a zombie towards the window. One bedroom apartment that she had taken a year back had very little sunlight to offer in the morning. This was all that she could afford for $400 a month. Not that she was born rich but one day she felt she will climb up the ladder and have a bungalow of her own. She pulls off the curtain and waits for the morning sunrays to bring her back to reality. It was still dark out. She feels betrayed and checks for the time. 9:30 and no light she must be dreaming again.
The ice cold water on her face immediately brings her back to senses. She looks at the time again and its 9:45. She was running an hour and 15 minutes late to office. It was an important day for her and she was already late. The editor wanted her to cover the story on the latest weapon scam. This was her big day, a year of waiting and now she was late. She cursed herself one more time and changed to a beautiful executive dress for the interview. Without even realizing that she had forgotten to pick her office bag she was on her way to office. Walking swiftly in cold breeze and dark. All that occupied her mind was she had been late for her biggest opportunity. The streets were empty but that did not bother her. She felt something missing or forgotten and then realized she forgot her office bag. Now caught in between office and home she decides it would be foolish to go to office without the bag. As she runs back to her house a strange sense of insecurity grips her brain. It’s still dark and the streets are deserted. Maybe its not yet morning is all that she could manage to reason herself.
